Acid Dye
Acid Dye can be used on animal fibers (wool, alpaca, mohair etc.), silk and nylon.
The colors come in powder form that can be used as is or dissolved in water. The colors must be bound with a mild acid (colorless vinegar or citric acid), but do not contain acid itself. When the color is bound in the fibres, they are both colourfast and washable.
A beaker of powder contains 33 g , and the amount of powder for full coloring differs from color to color. The beaker shows the dissolution ratio for full dyeing with a percentage indication that corresponds to the following measurements per 100 g of yarn:
- 0.5% = one third of ¼ teaspoon
- 1½% = ¼ teaspoon
- 3% = ½ teaspoon
- 5% = 1 teaspoon
Always wear a dust mask when handling the colors in powder form.
Tip: Start with Brilliant Blue, Sun Yellow and Bright Red if in doubt. With them you can mix the whole rainbow yourself. If you want to create dusty colours, buy a gray or black one as well.
