wammi from wieseknit
Meet wammi - the home-knitted hay box.
wammi is knitted in the round in double-stranded pearl stocking and is knitted from the inside out in one piece. It is knitted tightly in the mesh pattern and in a double layer (there is an inside and an outside), which all helps to provide good insulation.
First the inner side is knitted, then a running course in single thread between the inner side and the outer side, for which i-cord cords are also knitted. At the top of the wammi, where the running gait is, the wammi can therefore be closed by tightening the knitted cords so that the top is closed and the wammi retains heat.
After the run, the outer side is knitted, after which the bottom is knitted in extension of the outer side and consists of a round shape with recesses. The bottom is knitted in double stockinette stitch. There is no inner bottom, as it is therefore easier to wash and dry it (either the whole wammi, or just the inside) afterwards.
You can possibly put a round trivet in the bottom of the wammi to make sure the bottom doesn't get too hot to have standing on the kitchen table.
The recipe is written so that you can adapt the wammi to exactly the size pot you want, based on three standard measurements for the diameter of the bottom.
Who wouldn't want more time to knit? It was precisely from this thought that the idea for wammi saw the light of day. Because while wammi takes care of preparing the food, you get more time to knit.
But actually there are several advantages. You save energy for the benefit of our planet - wammi makes your cooking less energy-intensive, as both the stove and hood can be switched off, all while wammi finishes heating the food. So here you can get into gear with slow cooking - because, just like knitting, everything doesn't have to go fast. There is something really liberating about having finished dinner several hours before it is to be enjoyed. At the same time, energy is saved - and thus also money.
How does wammi work?
Do exactly as you usually do - when the pot has boiled for a few minutes and the contents are thoroughly heated, you take it off the hob and put it into your wamm i. The cooking time is typically the same as the time you would have given them on the hob. Give it a try, and you'll quickly get a feel for how well your wammi heats.
What food is suitable for wammi?
The short answer is any food that needs to cook for more than a few minutes. These are potatoes, rice, pasta, beans, lentils and boiled dishes of all kinds, as well as pan-frying.
In addition to the ordinary foods and dishes that we prepare on the stove every day, I can also highly recommend letting yourself be inspired by the many fantastic slow cooking dishes and cookbooks available.

Always remember to follow the number of stitches indicated for the size you are knitting, subject to the number of stitches shown in the video.
Sizes
1 (2) 3
Height (measured from the bottom of the edge up to the middle of the lid of your pan): 27 (33) 39 cm*
Diameter of the base (its outer dimensions): 21 (28) 34 cm
*Tip: the height can always be adjusted to suit your favorite pan. Please note, however, that the yarn consumption is calculated according to the measurements in the recipe. If you knit it higher or lower than it says in the recipe, the yarn consumption must therefore also be adjusted. Remember that it is both the inside and the outside that must be knitted longer/shorter.
Also be aware when you measure the height that you must measure up to the middle of the lid so that it can be closed completely.
Yarn
approx. 450-500 (650-700) 900-1000 g Peruvian Highland Wool from Filcolana (100 m, 50 g)
wammi is knitted in double thread most of the time
Feel free to use your leftover yarn. My recommendation is to use yarn made of pure wool, as it retains the heat best. The wool also provides some elasticity in the design, which is taken into account in the recipe, so that there is room for the pot's handle on the sides
